Holy absurd resolution, batman! I suppose I should've broken this up, but nah, screw that. I intentionally wanted this to come out messy, as if Twilight had drawn and painted it. She's not known for her artistic skills (especially map drawing). I think I should've textured the color brushes a bit more to get a more "watercolory" feel. Live and learn!

Yeah, this isn't all-inclusive. I can think of half a dozen things off the top of my head that need to go in here for it to be more helpful. But I'm not teaching a class. I'm just drawing ponies.

I made this because I've seen a lot of...strange things in some fanfictions in the community. No, I don't mean Rainbow Dash being shipped with everypony or that impossibly glorious "ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny" fic. I mean strange form. Don't get me wrong, I love this part of the community to bits, and it makes me incredibly happy to see people of all ages putting pen to paper (or finger to keyboard). But I'm a man who believes that one should always strive to be better. So, that's why this is here: to try and help make some people more refined writers.

Of course, this guide is geared towards less experienced writers. Someone who's been writing for years doesn't need (or want) some pony-fan dude to tell him or her how to write. Then again, that's not what I'm trying to do; this is more like some rough guidelines than actual rules.

A lot of what's up there is more personal opinion than fact, but I hope some of you guys can take something positive away from this anyways. Also remember that it doesn't just apply to fan fiction.

A few extra words of advice: write for the goddamn Nobel Prize. No, you won't be winning it with a piece of pony fiction, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't strive to. If we challenge ourselves continually thus, we'll find ourselves growing into more perfect writers and artists. And people. Meaningful change can only come from within, and this is a catalyst for such a change.

Also if you get really stuck you can take a creative writing course. They rock.

The music that I WAS going to link to for this piece was removed from Youtube sometime before I finished this. It was the FFXI compendium music, for those curious. So, have a replacement: [link] (Any fellow FFXI bronies? No? Ok)

Hasbro owns the ponies. I wonder if anyone reads these. Silly Dante, you're not a pony. Enjoy!

This is very helpful. I think I'll use it next time I write! (I mean, "next time I write.") :)
